Allergy Relief

Allergies are a common disorder in northeast Ohio, affecting 40% of children and 20% of adults. In recent years, allergies have become far more common than they were previously. Common allergens include grass, tree, weed pollens, bee venom, pet dander, mold, and certain foods. Allergy symptoms include sneezing, nasal congestion, runny nose, and itchy or watery eyes and can be seasonal or perennial. The doctors at Ohio Head & Neck Surgeons offer treatments that can help relieve allergy symptoms.

Allergy Testing

The Allergy Lab at Ohio Head & Neck Surgeons provides patients with allergy testing using the scratch testing method or a blood (RAST) test. Allergy testing can help determine what allergens are triggering your symptoms. Once our lab identifies the offending allergens, they will create a treatment plan with recommendations such as medication or trigger avoidance.

Allergy Shots

One of the easiest ways to treat allergies is to avoid the antigen causing the allergic reaction simply. However, this is not always practical, especially if the cause of your allergies is mold, pollen, or a beloved pet. If avoidance is impractical, the next step is medication. Patients may find over-the-counter non-sedating antihistamines suffice. Others may require prescription-strength medications, such as steroid or antihistamine nasal sprays. If these medications are not helpful, allergy desensitization shots may be an alternative treatment. Contact our lab to schedule a consultation.
