Cancer of the Mouth and Throat

More than 54,000 adults are diagnosed with mouth and throat cancer annually. Men are two times more likely to develop mouth and throat cancers.  

There are several ways to treat mouth and throat cancer including surgery to remove tumors through opening the oral cavity. Which surgery is right for you depends on the size, location, and stage of your tumor. Cancer of the throat and mouth can affect the:

· Lips
· Tongue
· Larynx or voice box

The most common places for cancer in the throat and mouth to form are the tongue, gums and mouth floor, and tonsils and throat. Risk factors include the consumption of alcohol, use of tobacco, and genetic conditions.
