What is Obstructive Sleep Apnea?

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a common but serious condition that affects 25–30 million adults in the United States.

During sleep, the muscles of the airway and tongue relax. This can lead to airway blockage, causing breathing to repeatedly stop and start during sleep. These interruptions can reduce oxygen levels and disrupt restorative sleep, causing you to feel exhausted and potentially lead to more serious health complications.

What is Inspire® Therapy?

Inspire® Therapy is a mask-free solution for people with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) who have tried and struggled with CPAP. Through a simple-to-use system, Inspire® Therapy enables you to control your OSA treatment from the palm of your hand. No mask or hose required.

The Inspire® implant works comfortably inside your body to treat the root cause of your obstructive sleep apnea. The Inspire® implant uses gentle pulses to keep your airway open, allowing you to breathe regularly, without disrupting sleep.

The Implant Procedure

The Inspire® implant is placed during a short and safe outpatient procedure, meaning you will likely go home the same day. During the procedure, your provider will make two small incisions to place the implant.

The first incision places the Inspire® implant near your collarbone. A second incision beneath your jawline connects the implant to the nerve in your neck that controls your tongue, allowing Inspire® Therapy to gently move the tongue forward during breathing to keep the airway open.

Is Inspire® Therapy Right for You?

To be a candidate for Inspire® Therapy, you must meet the following FDA indications:

  • Age 18 or older
  • Diagnosed with moderate to severe OSA
  • Have tried and struggled with CPAP

Additional eligibility requirements apply. Your provider will determine whether Inspire® Therapy is right for you.

Inspire® is covered by most commercial insurers, Medicare, and the VA. Contact our office to schedule a consultation and learn whether Inspire® Therapy is the right solution for you.
